More volts = more heat, and too much heat can burn up your router. In my case, I’m using an Asus RT-N66U router. The Tomato firmware allows a maximum setting of 250mW transmit power. I just upgraded to an ASUS N66U and installed open firmware: I didn’t know what I was missing. Why I gave up on my old WRT-54G router. I bought a WRT-54GL back in 2008. There were better wireless routers available at the time, but few for what I wanted.
